Hi Chelsea,
One thing I meant to do but forgot this time (we did it last month for the “courage” lesson) was have the children (via their parents) tell a story about how they showed the virtue in everyday life.
I just wanted to share how I used this month’s lesson in a toddler class. We started by singing the prayer and some others. Then we talked about patience–what it is, why it is important, etc., and learned the quotation using your song. For the activity, I gathered several toys that require patience to manipulate (stringing beads, a muffin tin with colored cottonballs to sort with tongs, one of the printables pages with markers) and had activity stations, which included helping to make muffins. I played the short songs from the Ruhi books (available from ruhi.org) and the children played their chosen activity for the duration of that song; then we rotated and played a song for each subsequent activity until all of the children had done each thing. We briefly talked about how we had to wait patiently for our turn to use each thing as well as did activities that required patience to do. Then we ate the muffins that we waited patiently for.
I’m also using the RH activities with my daughter. One thing I made for her was I took an empty cardboard cereal box and cut it into a square. I punched holes in the sides and made a lacing card for her to play with. I drew a big “P is for patience” on it, riffing on your watercolor “P” idea.
Thank you so much for these wonderful lessons!
Warmly,
Amelia
Thank you Amelia for these lovely stories and sharing how you are using the activities! It is so wonderful to hear how people are modifying them and creating new ideas as well.
Really appreciate the comments! Hope to hear from you next month
