Preparing Your Family for the Bicentenary Celebrations (New Course from the Wilmette Institute)

September 1, 2017 By Chelsea

Is your family and community getting excited about the upcoming Bicentenary Celebrations on the weekend of 22 October 2017?  What a special time we are living in!

In a letter dated 18 May 2016, the Universal House of Justice wrote:

The House of Justice anticipates that in countless places across the world, both rural settings and urban centres, the friends will find creative ways to honour the Twin Manifestations Whose lives and sacred missions will be recalled on Their anniversaries… the most distinguishing feature of these bicentenaries will be a tremendous flourishing of activity by Bahá’ís and their friends in local communities.

How are you preparing yourself and your family for the upcoming Holy Days?  Are you inviting friends over to your house for a party?  Are you planning a neighborhood service project?  Are you offering a storytime and craft session for your child and their friends?

If you are looking for more inspiration and resources to celebrate this special occasion, you may want to consider enrolling in an exciting new 4-week online course offered by the Wilmette Institute starting 8 September 2017.  If you aren’t familiar with the Wilmette Institute, it is an online Bahá’í learning center that shares courses on various topics.  Many new parenting courses will be added in 2018 so pop over and take a look at how it works and what you may be interested in learning about.

The upcoming course is called Sharing Bahá’u’lláh’s Birthday with Children and is designed to help parents, teachers, and other adults share Bahá’u’lláh’s birthday with children in ways that will help children understand the significance of Bahá’u’lláh’s birth and instill in their minds and hearts the greatness of the day. It will also help children celebrate this very special birthday in a fun and uplifting way.

The course will focus on the birth of Bahá’u’lláh, the childhood and youth of Bahá’u’lláh, and the early adulthood of Bahá’u’lláh. It will include stories from the history of the Bahá’í Faith, service project ideas, activities, and songs to help children understand the underlying spirit of the special two-hundredth anniversary of Bahá’u’lláh’s birth.  Printables are included to make your planning fun and easy!

Join other families in preparing for this special occasion, share your ideas and get inspired by the resources shared.  There are countless ways to mark these days with joy, gratitude, and service for our friends and neighbors.  Which ideas will you use to celebrate with your children…

Pop over to our Facebook page to share your celebration ideas and preparatory photos.  We would love to share them with the Enable Me To Grow community!

"Having morning family prayers is something I grew up with, but having a systematic approach that infuses Baha’u’llah’s words, virtues, and music into your morning devotions really carries that spirit through the rest of the day..." Read more on our Testimonials page.
