Among the many duties and challenges in a mom’s life, it can be hard to find time for “personal growth.” However, spiritual health and direction is absolutely necessary for fulfilling one of our role’s most important requirements – teaching our children how to live a Baha’i life.
As mothers, we are the first educators of our children. Therefore, when it comes to teaching goodly and virtuous behavior, this means that we actually have to sincerely work on modeling such a character ourselves. Prayer and meditation, daily reflection on the Writings, and keeping ourselves focused set the foundation for this.

Whoso ariseth among you to teach the Cause of his Lord, let him, before all else, teach his own self, that his speech may attract the hearts of them that hear him. Unless he teacheth his own self, the words of his mouth will not influence the heart of the seeker. Take heed, O people, lest ye be of them that give good counsel to others but forget to follow it themselves.
