Prayer

O my Lord and my Hope! Help Thou Thy loved ones to be steadfast in Thy mighty Covenant, to remain faithful to Thy manifest Cause, and to carry out the commandments Thou didst set down for them in Thy Book of Splendors; that they may become banners of guidance and lamps of the Company above, wellsprings of Thine infinite wisdom, and stars that lead aright, as they shine down from the supernal sky. Verily, Thou art the Invincible the Almighty, the All-Powerful.

(‘Abdu’l-Bahá, Baha’i Prayers, p. 71)

Quotation

Observe My commandments, for the love of My beauty.

(Baha’u’llah, The Kitab-i-Aqdas, p. 20)

Songs

Obedience

(Nabil H., Virtues In Us #28)

I listen to my mommy

I listen to my daddy

I listen to my teacher every day

And what they ask

And what they say

I promise, I promise to obey

Open shut them

Open shut them, open shut them

Give a little clap

Open shut them, open shut them

Fold them in your lap

Creep them, crawl them

Creep them, crawl them

Right up to your chin

Open wide your little mouth

But do not let them in

Comments about the lesson

Daily Activity #8 was very helpful for me to reflect on how I frame “rules” in our family.  Explaining that rules are there to keep us safe and to open doors to us in our lives that would otherwise remain shut was an empowering concept.

My son loves policemen so discussing police in the context of promoting obedience in the community was a fun activity (Daily Activity #9).

Our poster for Daily Activity #13 was full of stickers we got from the fire station, dinosaurs, and construction vehicles.

The Family Rules in Daily Activity #15 cover basically everything that can go on at home… it has been a very useful exercise to make this poster.

Discussing virtues over baking has always been a relaxing time for us, since we are doing something fun.  Therefore Daily Activity #19 was fun and useful.  Having an example of a virtue which extends to the physical world (not including actual humans) is somehow more entertaining than discussing plain virtues sometimes 🙂

Testimonials

"Having morning family prayers is something I grew up with, but having a systematic approach that infuses Baha’u’llah’s words, virtues, and music into your morning devotions really carries that spirit through the rest of the day..." Read more on our Testimonials page.
