Prayer
O my God, my Lord and my Master! I have detached myself from my kindred and have sought through Thee to become independent of all that dwell on earth and ever ready to receive that which is praiseworthy in Thy sight. Bestow on me such good as will make me independent of aught else but Thee, and grant me an ampler share of Thy boundless favors. Verily, Thou art the Lord of grace abounding.
(The Bab, Baha’i Prayers, p. 19)
Quotation
Arise thou to serve God and help His Cause.
(Baha’u’llah, Epistle to the Son of the Wolf, p. 47)

Comments about the lesson
My boys are really into superheroes so Daily Activity #8 was a hit. Recognizing the spirit of service in famous characters has been a great way to bring up the topic of serving others.
There was an exhibit about rescue workers at a local art gallery so we went to that to discuss community service providers for Daily Activity #9. It made the idea of service fun and exciting, for sure!
Daily Activity #12 was a good introduction to finding ways to serve without being asked. I know it will take many years for this concept to really take hold, but doing the exercise now was a great start!
Daily Activity #15 was a nice way to talk about how we serve our community, like teaching children’s classes and bringing snacks to different peoples’ homes. Making service a part of life, versus something “extra” we have to fit into our already busy schedule, is important to us. We want to be sure we’re living, and teaching our children to live, a life that is full of service in everything we do, not where service is just a part of our life.
Our family has always wanted to do more acts of service together so coming up with service project ideas for Daily Activity #19 was very useful! It was neat to see what the children came up with, too.
