Prayer

Thy name is my healing, O my God, and remembrance of Thee is my remedy. Nearness to Thee is my hope, and love for Thee is my companion. Thy mercy to me is my healing and my succor in both this world and the world to come. Thou, verily, art the All-Bountiful, the All-Knowing, the All-Wise.

(Baha’u’llah, Baha’i Prayers, p. 85)

Quotation

If it be Thy pleasure, make me to grow as a tender herb in the meadows of Thy grace, that the gentle winds of Thy will may stir me up and bend me into conformity with Thy pleasure, in such wise that my movement and my stillness may be wholly directed by Thee.

(Baha’u’llah, Prayers and Meditations by Baha’u’llah, p. 240)

Songs

Compassion
(Nabil H., Virtues In Us #37)

Let me give my friend a hug,
a gentle hug, a gentle hug,
let me give my friend a hug
when he is hurting.
Let me get a tissue,
a tissue, a tissue,
let me get a tissue
to wipe away his tears.

My Gentle Friend
(tune “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star”)

Today I met a gentle friend.
I really liked to play with him.
He touches softly, never shouts.
Friendly words come from his mouth.
Gentle friends can be fun too.
Let’s be gentle, me and you.

Comments about the lesson

I loved this lesson because it’s a good reminder for all of us to have gentle hands no matter what we are doing.  It was even good for me to remember to always close doors gently, use a gentle voice, and also having a gentle manner.

I was surprised how my son reacted to the daily activities requiring role plays with gentleness.  He really showed gentleness well and appreciated having practice to tell someone else to be gentle (in daily activity #13).

Activity #18 was good practice for my son to remember that building does take gentleness sometimes.  He usually gets quite frustrated with legos or mega blocks when they aren’t doing what he wants, but I usually observe that if he takes a bit more time and patiently puts the blocks together he builds much better.  I hope this activity helped him to understand this principle of gentleness in building a bit better so that next time I can cue him to use gentleness to get his project done in the way he wants.

Since doing daily activity #8 we have been massaging each other more regularly which is very sweet.  Before bed time my son will sometimes ask for a massage now, and sometimes when I am sitting down he will ask if I want a massage.  I love having those tender moments where we can express virtues so intimately and in a way that is so personally understood.

"Having morning family prayers is something I grew up with, but having a systematic approach that infuses Baha’u’llah’s words, virtues, and music into your morning devotions really carries that spirit through the rest of the day..." Read more on our Testimonials page.
