Here are some books we enjoyed while learning about Courage. (For Family Virtue Time’s Online Lesson for Courage click here.)
Try and Stick With It by Cheri J Meiners
This book is great for three year olds and up. This book encourages children to try new things even when they are not easy. It helps children gain confidence by remembering things they do well, and gives them tools for dealing with frustration or disappointment. Overall it helps children gain courage to try their best and feel good about themselves.
We’re Going on a Bear Hunt by Michael Rosen
This famous children’s book takes a father with his children through various scenes (grass, river, snow) to search for a bear. The children eventually find the bear and they all run away. Being courageous does not mean you are not scared, but it does mean that you gather up the courage to do something. Running away is quite practical! This book is a fun way to introduce the concept of courage to young children.
